The Occasional Blogger

Seriously, very occasional, but sometimes I just have something I really need to say or share with you.

Also, fair warning - I can't spell. And no, it's not because I don't read enough. You want 'authentic', this is me, warts and all.

Welcome to my Kitchen

20 June 2020

Come in - it's a bit messy, just move the mixing bowl and pull up a chair. I'll get the coffee.

It's July 20, 2021. It's been a helluva couple of years. It's easy to forget that our economy was already not very healthy in 2019 and prices of everyday items were starting to rise. Slowly. Now, two years later, we're in the middle of a pandemic, our electricity supply is dodgy, and water is precious. The devastating civil unrest has put more people out of work and messing up major supply chains. All this is leaving everyone around the country a lot lighter in our pockets. Our incomes are dwindling, and food prices are soaring. It's hard to keep up. So many of my creative small business owning friends are affected as their sales drop drastically.

There's not a whole lot I can do to help. I've never been very good at making money, but I am better at spending as little money as possible. That along with a change in my own diet has led me to explore new recipes, using simple ingredients, sometimes ingredients I had never used before and exploring different flavours. Mostly vegetable based and stuffed with as many nutrients in a meal as I can on a tight budget. I will share some money saving tips as they come up and a few trick to make your meals go further.

I'd like to share what I have learned with you. Maybe you would like to find ways to feed your family on a tighter budget than you are used to. Maybe you would simply like to add more vegetables to your diet. I'm not a chef of any kind, I'm just a gal making do. I hope what I have learned will be useful to you.
